Dear Guests,

Welcome to the 18th Annual Eversource Special Olympics Golf Tournament Presented by Bond Brothers and hosted by Foxwoods Resort Casino. We’re pleased to be back at one of Connecticut’s finest golf courses, Lake of Isles Golf Resort, for another round to support our state’s finest athletes.

This year, funding raised through this event will be earmarked for critical Special Olympics initiatives and life-changing experiences for outstanding local athletes of all abilities.

  • A portion of the funds will be dedicated to supporting and expanding our Special Olympics Healthy Athletes program. For over 20 years, Special Olympics has addressed the inadequacy of healthcare for people with intellectual disabilities through its Healthy Athletes program and has become the largest public health organization for people with intellectual disabilities in the world.

  • Through our Healthy Athletes program here in Connecticut, we provide free screenings and preventative education to our athletes. During the past year, we’ve also incorporated training medical practitioners (298 in 2018) on caring for those with intellectual disabilities and partnering with community health organizations to ensure our athletes receive the follow-up care they require.

  • Funding will also be allocated to implement our Fit Five program. Fit 5 is an eight-week, comprehensive health and wellness program that educates athletes on how to make healthy lifestyle choices in three areas: nutrition, hydration and physical activity. The program is conducted during a team’s regular practices and led by coaches who are trained by our staff.

  • And, additionally, a portion of proceeds will go toward sending a Connecticut Unified Sports® basketball team to the 2022 Special Olympics USA Games in Florida. Participation in the Games will provide players the opportunity to form friendships and compete with 4,000 peers from across the country.

As you can see, your involvement in this golf tournament and generous support has impact! It truly transforms lives for the better and empowers our athletes by helping them improve their sports, social and leadership skills and their overall well-being. For that, for you, we are most grateful!

Sincerely,

Beau Doherty
President, Special Olympics Connecticut
